Confer Looks In Good Order
"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. The Great Northern Steeplechase winner. Confer, came through his recent racing well and looked in excellent order when doing pacework at Avondale yesterday morning. Confer’s next attempt over fences will be in the Wellington Steeplechase on July 16. P. R. Wilson will ride him. Rainfall, the winner of the Cornwall Handicap at her last start, will race next in the Whyte Handicap at Trentham on July 16. All going well, she will then tackle the Parliamentary Handicap, a mile and three furlongs, on the second day. She will be ridden by R. J. Skelton.
The Te Awamutu mare, Queen’s Poet, which gained two wins at the Auckland winter meeting, will also compete at the Wellington meeting. She will contest the major sprints at the meeting. B. F. Andrews will ride her. Andrews has also been engaged for the Ellersie mare. Clipjoint, in her Australian campaign which will take in the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups next spring. Clipjoint, along with her stablemate, the high-class three-year-old, Terrific, is likely to cross the Tasman early in September. Terrific (Gigantic-Our Love) resumed work early this week. Although little taller, he has thickened into a striking young horse. G. F. Hughes will ride him in Australia.
