(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 15, A petition seeking increased penalties for rape was presented to Parliament today—shortly after the debate on the Crimes Amendment Bill. The petition, signed by Emily E. Booth, of Te Atatu, and 714 others, urged the Government “to introduce severe legislation against offenders committing rape, especially against children, and try to stamp out this violent, cruel and shocking crime.” , The petition was presented by Dr. A. M. Finlay (Opp, Waitakere).
