Migrant Champion
A Corgi dog judged champion at the world-renowned Crufts Show has emigrated to New Zealand, and is now settling down in his new home at Kings Ride, Geraldine.
Owned by Miss E. L.' J. Davies, the black, tan and white Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Corgwyn Shillelah (Danny to his friends), arrived at Wellington on June 1 in the Temple Main, and was flown to Christchurch, where he was reunited with his mistress the next day. Danny is worth his weight
in gold to Miss Davies, who said yesterday that she “fell in love’’ with him when she was in England about two years and a half ago. “It was Danny’s first show, held at Leeds but he was not placed,” said Miss Davies. Now not quite 3i, Danny has achieved greatness since h« made his debut at Leeds. Then the Corgi won two successive championship points—in Dublin, and Leicester, and last year he was the champion Corgi dog at the world’s top dog show when he was awarded his third championship point. Miss Davies said she hoped to show Danny at the champion show at Dunedin on July
2. Danny is for showing and breeding. Danny faced no immigration problems as there is no quarantine in New Zealand for dogs if they arrive by ship from the United Kingdom, their papers are in order, and they pass a veterinary examination.
Miss Davies, who has shown most successfully in New Zealand, has .five Corgis besides Danny.
