Yorkshire Has Big Lead
(NZP.AReuter—Copyright) LONDON. A twoday win over Derbyshire on Monday has put Yorkshire into a 22-point lead in the English county cricket championship. Its nearest rivals, Worcestershire and Warwickshire, could only draw their matches yesterday. Worcestershire, last year's champion, was thwarted in its bid for victory over Middlesex by the test discard, W. E. Russell who became the first player this season to score a century against Worcestershire. Results were:—
At Liverpool. Lancashire 139’7 and 37/3 drew with Glamorgan 99. Lancashire two points. At Brentwood.—Essex 284 and 238/7 dec. beat Cambridge University 127 and 207 by 188 runs.
At Bournemouth.—Hampshire 150 and 209 (R. Marshall 110: R. White 5/35) lost to Nottinghamshire 219 and 141/3 by seven wickets. Nottinghamshire 12 points.
At Worcester.—Worcestershire 237/4 and 258/4 dec. drew with Middlesex 132 and 249/3 (M. Smith 88. W. E. Russell 117 not out). Worcestershire two points. At Oxford.—Oxford University 172 and 204 (P. Gibbs 67: G. A. R. Lock 4/51) lost to Leicestershire 280 and 99/3, by seven wickets.
At ..Bristol. Warwickshire 252/4 and 188/5 dec. (M. J. K. Smith 62) drew with Gloucestershire 214/7 and 182/7 (D. Brown 92 not out). Warwickshire two points.
