Obituary MR J. A. KILMARTIN
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 14. One of New Zealand’s best known boxing personalities and one of its leading, referees for many years, Mr J. A. Kilmartin, died in Dunedin yesterday. He was 86. Mr Kilmartin was manager of the first team to go from Otago to the New Zealand amateur championships in Christchurch more than 60 years ago. He also represented Otago about that time as a bantam-weight. Mr Kilmartin was a foundation member of the Otago Boxing Association and had been associated with it for more than 60 years, having held practically every office. He was prominent as a referee and match-maker. He is survived by his wife and one daughter.
