COMMERCIAL Overseas Issues Give Main Market Support

A firm overseas list gave good support to a rising market on the New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. Trading was over a wide range of issues on slightly higher turn-over than on Monday. Key stocks in both lists recorded a net advance.

General Foods, up 7d at 15s 6d, Autocrat, up 6d at Ils, and Pye, up 6d at 10s, made the sharpest gains in the New Zealand list. New Zealand Insurance, at 21s 9d, Ross and Glendining, at 13s lid, and N.Z. Forest Products each recovered Id.

Banks were in demand again in the overseas list. A.N.Z. rose 3s 6d to 56s 3d in first ex dividend sales, Bank of N.S.W. 9d to 475, and C.B.A. 3d to 19s 9d. Ampol old and deferred shares each rose Id. Colonial Sugar, at 25s 6d, and 1.C.A.N.Z., at 365, each gained 3d, while Mount Isa rose 9d to 375. Waltons, the only overseas share to be chalked down, sold Id lower at 9s.
