Truck And Tanker Hit

The driver of a sheep truck and trailer had to take off the steering wheel before he could get out of the wrecked cab after a collision with a 1350-gaillon fuel tanker in Yaldhurst road, near Pound road, about 9.20 a.m. yesterday. The driver, Mr E. C. Gardiner, of Rolleston street, Rakaia, suffered only bruised ankles. The driver of the tanker, Mr M. L. Neilson, of 122 Watford street, Christchurch, suffered concussion. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged.

The tanker came to rest on its side in a culvert. There were 178 sheep in the sheep truck and trailer, but none was killed. The front of the truck was severely damaged and sheep had to be transferred to another.
