Indonesia
Sir, ; —I strongly support “Pelopor’s” views on lan Ward’s article on Sarawak. The tone of hostility towards Indonesia surprised me. I am sure the present leaders of Indonesia are really sincere in wanting to end the three-year-old confrontation. Indonesia and Malaysia are moving towards a peace pact and everyone of us should be happy that at last there will be peace in the area. However, in reading lan Ward’s article, it makes me wonder whether Britain, on the other hand, is really sincere in wanting peace in the area.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED. June 13, 1966.
Sir.—“Pelepor’s” letter was marred by the fact that he falls into the same error of which he accused lan Ward. This is when he writes of “Western arrogance." No race has a monopoly of arrogance or treachery, but every race carries a burden of arrogant and treacherous individuals. The vast majority of 1 every race on earth is composed of good and decent human beings. If this were not true no race could survive. The great problem of humanity is how to control the small minority of troublemakers. One way is to refuse to let their words have the power to make us hate each other.—Yours, etc., AQUARIUS. June 14, 1966.
