Railway Charges
Sir, —Some time ago you printed an article on the differing railway rates between Auckland and Christchurch. You also interested at least two ad hoc bodies. What about interesting the South Island members of Parliament? Has there been an amendment to this difference —charges?—Yours, etc.,
June 9, 1966. [The district traffic manager (Mr M. R. Leineweber) replied: “Freight rates for general merchandise by rail and rail-road ferry from Auckland to Christchurch are still the same as those from Christchurch to Auckland. From June 27, 1966, rates in both directions will be reduced by 7s 6d per 20cwt or 40 cubic feet for carriage on the railroad ferries, but this will not affect the comparative position.”]
