Brit. Tobacco To Expand In Food

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, June 13. British Tobacco Company (Australia) today announced a further expansion of its interests in the food industry. Through its subsidiary, Associated Products and Distribution Pty., it has agreed to buy all the shares of Alaska Fruits Pty.

The acquisition will also bring into the group Alaska’s subsidiary, Snack Foods Pty. Alaska Fruits is a South Australian company engaged mainly in the manufacture and distribution of potato crisps. In addition. Associated Products and Distribution has acquired all the shares of

Nobby Nuts Pty. also operating in South Australia as a manufacturer and distributor of nut products. Consideration for these purchases was not given in the announcement by British Tobacco, received at Sydney Stock Exchange late today. . Mitcham-Based Alaska Fruits is a subsidiary of Alaska Foods, Ltd., a public company based at Lower Mitcham, South Australia and having a paid capital of 540,282 dollars in dollar shares. The fruit packaging section of Alaska Fruits was sold towards the end of 1964 and the proceeds were applied to enlarging the factory and providing plant for the manufacture of “Krackos,” a new line of savoury. For the manufacture of this line, a British product, the company secured the sole right for Australia and New Zealand and also the right to export to certain overseas markets.
