Revisiting Scenes Of War-time Conflict

LONDON, June 12. Members of the Second New Zealand Division, making a twenty-fifth anniversary pilgrimage to battlefields in Europe, laid a wreath at the cenotaph in London’s Whitehall today. London is the final call in the pilgrimage, which began in Greece, and continued to Crete, Italy and Germany. The men, who attended a service in Westminster Abbey after the wreath-laying, will return to New Zealand soon. None of the former soldiers has regretted the tour. “It’s been interesting to see where we fought during the Second World War and also to meet people we fought with and against,” said one.
During their visit to Italy the men visited the Cassino war cemetery. In Germany they were reunited with members of the Afrika Corp and also with German paratroopers who invaded Crete 25 years ago.
