T.A.B. punters trying to bet on a race-by-race basis are finding the new 30-minute time limit a nerve-racking hindrance rather than a help. The limit, introduced for the first time on Saturday, theoretically gives punters five minutes between races to make bets. In fact, it rarely allows more than 90 seconds and in six races on Saturday punters found the T.A.B. closed before the previous race had finished. It led to a mad scramble in some branches, with punters unable to bet because they had waited to see how their selection fared in the previous race.
