SIX TONS OF FISH
W. j. Scott’s Catch (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 13. The Marine Department fisheries research vessel, the W. J. Scott, returned to Auckland today with six tons of fish after a successful trial voyage. Because of its part in the search for the hull of the Kaitawa, the W. J. Scott was only able to spend 32 hours fishing.
The master, Captain D. C. Munro, said he was very pleased with the performance of the equipment. “We had only a very short time in which to get the gear working properly,” he said, “but by the last two trawls everything was working most efficiently.”
Captain Munro did not have sufficient time to try out the electronic fish-detecting gear to assist in fishing, but it proved highly efficient in searching for the hull of the Kaitawa. .
