r <\'Z. Press Association! a AUCKLAND, June 13. Fining a head chauffeur in the Public Service Garage on a charge of careless driving todav, Mr R. M. Grant. S.M.. said: “Ths importance of your passengers does not entitle you to favourednation treatment." Lee Frank Hadley, aged 55. admitted a charge of careless driving on February 23 when he was driving an official car taking members of the Thai Prime Minister’s official party to Auckland airport. He was fined £lO, his licence was cancelled for a month and endorsed for six months.

Senior-Sergeant P. Gaines said that as Hadley approached the bend before the airport, he pulled on to the incorrect side of the road to pass some private cars and collided with an oncoming car. No-passing lines were painted on the bend. Two members of the party suffered minor shoek. For Hadley, Mr C, B. Mead submitted that some instruction could be issued to people who organised motorcades. Hadley had to keep up with the motorcade. The Magistrate: Although Hadley belongs to an elite band of drivers, the Court must treat all these matters on the same basis.
