Read’s Walk Earns Games Nomination

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. A New Zealand athletic selector, Mr J. Borland, said yesterday that the walker, N. Read, would now be a definite nomination for the Jamaica Games.

Mr Borland said both he and the other selector, Mr C. Thompson (Hamilton) were familiar with Read’s performances in Great Britain. He said Read's nomination depended on the quality of his performance in the British championship and he had now won it. ‘•Mr Thompson and myself will recommend that Read be included in the athletic section on a high ranking. “We will recommend his inclusion into the team to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, who will have to ask the Olympic and British Empire Games Association to re-open selection.

“Although we know Read’s time and place,” said Mr Borland, “we will have to wait for official notification from the British authorities before we can take these steps.”
