Report On | Showing "Lack of experience In this tough type of competition.” was the explanation for Canterbury's below par showing in the Freyberg Rose Bowl contest given by Mr G. V. Williams last night. Mr Williams, the manager of the team, was making his report to the management committee of the Canterbury Provincial Golf Association. It could not be said that Canterbury was unlucky to lose the Rose Bowl, but the team s performance was not as bad as the bald statistics indicated, said Mr Williams. "Where we failed noticeably was the inability of players to hold on to an early advantage,” he said. But. he added, all six players applied themselves diligently and fought hard. R. E. Clements made an excellent captain. < The selectors had chosen J. R. Broadhurst as No. 4 and R. K. Atkinson as No. 5 in the team, but this order was reversed in the entry form sent to the New Zealand Golf Association. said Mr Williams. The disputes committee had ruled that the order as submitted should be adhered to during the contest. "It Is doubtful If this made any difference to the team's result." said Mr Williams. Mr C. J. Ward said he and his fellow selector <Mr S. G. H. Rich) were "not really disappointed” at- the team's performance. There were three new olavers in the side and the exnerience they gained would nrove invaluable in the future, he said.
