DELEGATION TO FIRM

Requests Over Dismissal

A delegation of Christchurch union leaders yesterday afternoon requested the engineering firm of Andersons. Ltd., to reinstate a charge hand and reconsider his dismissal, said the president of the Canterbury Trades Council of the Federation of Labour (Mr R. A. Hill). The charge hand, who had been employed by the company for 17 years, was dismissed last Wednesday, said Mr Hill. He said Anderson’s told the delegation that it would reply to the requests by noon today.

A meeting of the Canterbury Trades Council executive and representatives of all unions concerned agreed that the dismissal was victimisation, said Mr Hill. The delegation included the president of the Canterbury Trades Council (Mr R. A. Hill), the vice-president (Mr L. Short), the secretary of the council (Mr S. Harris), who represented the Canterbury Moulders’ Union, and the secretary of the Canterbury Engineers’ Union (Mr G. R. Scott).
