SUPPLY OF CREAM

Explanation By Vendors Complaints in certain areas of Christchurch about difficulties in getting quarterpints of cream were the result of a misunderstanding, said Mr P. A. Caithness, vendors’ representative on the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board, yesterday. The chairman (Mr H. E. Denton) said there had been several complaints. Mr Caithness said there had been a few isolated cases in the last few days. They had occurred because Wrights Metropolitan Milk Supply had been having excessive returns of cream and had told vendors that they would not accept returns of quarter-pints in future. There was a lot of wastage when quarter-pints were returned because such . a large proportion of the cream stuck to the side of the bottles. Some milk vendors had misunderstod the firm’s attitude and had told their customers that they would not be able to get quarter-pints. Mr Caithness said he had spoken to an executive of the company and he thought the difficulty would be overcome. He would also speak to the vendors involved.
