14,000 Enter Wool Contest

Thousands of New Zealand housewives are keen to have their own wool clip put up for auction, judging by the response to a “win a wool cheque” competition. When entries closed, more than 14,000 had been received by the Kaiapoi Petone Group Textiles, Ltd., which is running the competition. As only 55,000 entry forms were distributed, this represented a return rate of more than 25 per cent. The successful entrant, to be announced on June 20, will win eight bales of wool and will be taken to the Auckland wool sale on June 22 to see them sold at auction.

The wool is top quality Romney lambswool, which has been washed and specially packed. The guaranteed minimum from the auction sale is £5OO, though the sponsors think this may be considerably exceeded.
