C.O.R.S.O. Tribute To N.Z. Women

A tribute to the women of New Zealand has been paid by the national secretary of C.0.R.5.0. (the Rev. H. Dixon), to mark the annual house-to-house appeal of C.0.R.5.0. and the Freedom from Hunger Campaign.

“Throughout its 21 years C.0.R.5.0. has had as its staunchest supporters the women of our community. In launching this year’s house-to-ihouse appeal I should like to pay tribute to the exceptional service given throughout the years by so many thousands of women throughout the country,” said Mr Dixon. “Without their extraordinary loyalty, devotion, patience and practical support we could never have achieved what we have in the relief of suffering in so many parts of the world. “It is perhaps in the nature of woman that she can appreciate more fully and deeply the real problems of want and despair which afflict so much of our world today. "Accustomed herself to bearing the strain of childbirth and caring for the weak and dependent, she is so well fitted to play a large part in meeting the challenge of widespread world need. “With her pioneering background, the New Zealand woman, traditionally versatile

and adaptable as she is, can understand perhaps better than most women of the West, the heavy responsibilities placed on the shoulders of her counterparts in the developing countries. And perhaps she is more aware, too, of the many conflicting demands made on women in a newly developing society. “We of C.0.R.5.0. offer special thanks to the women of this country for their past invaluable support in all C.0.R.5.0. and Freedom from Hunger Campaign undertakings. Without their sustained help C.0.R.5.0. could never continue on the vast scale it has. “On behalf of the many thousands of people in need throughout the world whom they have already helped, we offer our heartfelt thanks. Let it never be said that the world’s cry of despair would go unanswered from the women of New Zealand. “The poverty of these countries bears most heavily on the women and the children. It is the women who pay the price,” said Mr Dixon.
