RUGBY Albion Beats Lincoln To Take Third Place
With only four rounds of matches remaining before the division of teams, the senior Rugby championship has reached a most interesting position. On Saturday the top teams, Christchurch and Linwood, both won, but the teams immediately behind them, Lincoln College and University B, were both defeated.
Lincoln College’s overthrow was achieved by Albion, and this success took it into third place, one point behind the top pair. Three teams are competing for the fourth position Suburbs having advanced to join University B and Lincoln College.
There were some minor surprises in Saturday’s results. Shirley’s success over New Brighton and Albion’s over Lincoln College were among them. Christchurch had a hard struggle before beating University B, but University A and Sydenham won by startlingly large margins against Merivale-Papanui and Belfast respectively. Christchurch 14, University B 6. Albion 16, Lincoln College 8. Linwood 26, Marist 0. Suburbs 18, Old Boys 10. University A 33, Meri-vale-Papanui 3. Sydenham 34, B“’fast 8. Shirley 6, New Brighton 0.
