Indonesia
Sir,—l was rather surprised at the general tone of hostility towards Indonesia in lan Ward's article on Sarawak, and it makes me wonder whether Britain really wants peace in that area. Or was that hostility inspired by the awful suspicion that Indonesia was right after all in branding Malaysia a product of British neo-colonialism unable to survive without its British masters as the Dutch-founded United States of Indonesia was unable to survive after withdrawal of the Dutch army? As for Mr Ward’s allegation that Indonesians are treacherous, such a remark ill befits a man who belongs to a race which has its own and long record of treachery, broken promises, and aggression. His accusation is totally unwarranted and is yet another example of Western arrogance which is completely blind to the unsavoury past of its own blood-stained history. —Yours, etc., PELOPOT.
