Carlton Bridge Traffic Lights
Sir,—l thank you for referring my letter of May 3 to the traffic engineer. I am pleased to know there are no technical difficulties in bringing on the green arrow signal before the circuit goes right round again. I am, however, completely at a loss to understand what the traffic problems would be. The Harper avenue lanes are clear; nothing is entering or crossing them. So why cannot they be used while the Park terrace traffic proceeds into Carlton Mill road? A little further explanation by Mr Surtees of what he means here would be appreciated.—Yours, etc., R. T. H. HAMILTON.
May 19, 1966. [The City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scouiar) replied: “The traffic problem referred to concerns the duration of the green arrow display which would, under some traffic conditions, be as short as one second. This could only be overcome by guaranteeing a suitable minimum green time which would introduce unnecessary delays to motorists on other approaches.’’]
