Champion Of Irrigation

Advantages of irrigation far outweigh the disadvantages, said Mr G. B. Henderson, of Lyndhurst, this week, after being presented with the A. C. Cameron memorial gold medal award. “If it had not been for irrigation, I might not have been farming today,” he told the Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs. “My father must have been as good as me, for he fanned the place under dry land conditions. “If any young farmer here is considering irrigation farming, I say, don’t hesitate. Its advantages far outweigh its disadvantages.” Mr Henderson said he was pleased to leam that the Winchmore irrigation research station was going to experiment on the irrigation of crops. On his light-land property, under irrigation, he had been able to harvest 90 bushels of Arawa wheat an acre. and on pasture fatten his lambs, take a white clover crop, and then fatten bought-in stores.
