JOINING ROWING SQUAD
The Union Rowing Club oarsman, R. Satherley, has been selected to join the training squad from which a crew wftl be chosen to represent New Zealand at eights ; in the world championships at Bled, Jugoslavia, in September. Satherley, a 21-year-old post office employee, leaves.
Christchurch today to join the squad at their training centre in Auckland. Satherley said yesterday that he was “pretty excited” about his selection. He will replace another member of the squad who has withdrawn because of an injury. He started rowing about five years ago when a pupil
at Shirley Boys’ High School. For the last three years he has been a member of the Union Rowing Club. Satherley is regarded as one of Canterbury’s up-and-coming oarsmen. He has represented the province three times, once as a member of the youths’ crew and twice in the senior provincial eights.
