Govt. Broadcasts Resume In Hue

(N.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright)

HUE, June 10.

The Vietnam Government today began broadcasting from a secret radio station in Hue, making its voice heard against militant Buddhists for the first time in three weeks.

At the same time a clandestine “Radio S.O.S. Buddhism,” run by Buddhist monks, continued to pour out tirades against the United Statessupported ruling junta from one of the city’s main pagodas. Hue’s 100,000 people were still outside effective Government control.

The city was nearly paralysed with thousands of family Buddhist altars jamming the streets, most shops closed and trade almost at a standstill. The new radio was being run at an undisclosed site within the city area, with equipment flown 400 miles north from Saigon yesterday. This morning, the city’s official radio station, which has been off the air for 10 days, was ringed by armoured troop carriers mounted with heavy machine guns and crack “Black Panther” local security troops. Inside the building, Government technicians were working to get the station back on the air. They were

repairing and replacing equipment sabotaged by anti-Gov-ernment students when they were driven from it by troops early last week.
