Sovereign For The Queen

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, June 9. Queen Elizabeth spent an hour at the Royal Mint in London today—and left it a sovereign richer. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Callaghan, who is titular chief of the mint, invited Her Majesty to strike three golden sovereign coins by pressing a button. The foreman surveyed the newly-minted pieces through his inspection glass, approved them, and gave one to the Queen, who put it in her handbag. Later she toured the nearby Customs House, where she saw a display of smuggling techniques.
