Handicap Overcome
After spending 10 years and a half in a wheel-chair and taking part in no sport of any kind, Mr P. Haddon of Dunedin has joined the ranks of New Zealand sportsmen again. Mr Haddon, who came to Christchurch during the week-end for interclub matches, first played darts eight weeks ago. In those eight weeks he has already earned for himself a fine reputation as a player. “I kept going down to the club and seeing the others playing and I thought I’d like to try it myself,” he said. “I have had a wonderful time
and I’m sorry I didn't take it up sooner.” This week-end was the first occasion on which he had played against another club, playing for Dunedin W.M.C. against Richmond. Mr Haddon lost both his legs and he played against two one-legged players. On Sunday evening he gave back something to the sport by donating a shield for competition between physically handicapped players in Dunedin and Christchurch. After only eight weeks, he has already made a name for himself.
