Patient Took Gun
(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, June 9. A man the police alleged had left his bed in Palmerston North Hospital to burgle a gunsmith's shop and steal a shotgun he later used in the duck-shooting season, was convicted and remanded to next Monday for sentence by Mr D. G. Sinclair, S.M., today.
Warren Charles Davey, aged 28, a freezing worker, admitted the charge of breaking and entering. Detective Senior Sergeant D. Dwan said Davey had left his hospital bed early one morning and broken into the gunsmith’s premises and taken a gun valued at £l3O. He returned to hospital, wrapped the gun in waterproof material and buried it in the hospital grounds.
When he was discharged, he recovered the gun and used it for some weeks in the duck-shooting season. He was traced after trying to sell the gun.
