Relief For Trade Post Named
The former New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Tokyo (Mr C. B. Murray), aged 40, has been appointed relieving District Officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce in Christchurch.
Mr Murray will take up his duties on Wednesday and continue until a permanent appointment is made by the State Services Commission. Mr P. J. Carroll, the present holder, will take up his new post of District Officer of the department in Auckland, next Wednesday. Mr Murray returned to New Zealand from Tokyo early this year. Since then he has served in the head office of the department in Wellington.
He joined the Public Service in 1943 as a cadet in the Ministry of Supply, then a part of the Department of Industries and Commerce. In 1946 Mr Murray went to Japan to serve with J-force. From 1947 to 1953, he was attached to the newly-formed New Zealand Legation in Tokyo. In 1953 he attended the E.C.A.F.E. trade promotion conference in Manila. In 1954 he attended a Singapore trade fair and participated in a survey of the need for New Zea-
land to establish a trade post in the area. From 1954 to 1963, he served in the overseas trade division of the department in Wellington where he was editor of “Export News” and was responsible for trade publicity. For a period in 1962. Mr Murray .was Acting Trade Commissioner in Hong Kong. In 1963 he was appointed Assistant Trade Commissioner in Tokyo and later Trade Commissioner. He made trade surveys in Korea, Okinawa and Formosa.
