Police For Cyprus
Detective-Sergeant B. I. S. Kimber and Detective A. E. Harris, of the Christchurch C. 1.8., have been chosen among 11 policemen from whom seven will be selected to replace members of the unit serving with the United Nations, peace-keeping force in Cyprus. The seven policemen, plus Inspector K. G. Sykes, of Auckland, who has been appointed the new commanding officer of the New Zealand Police contingent in Cyprus, will leave Auckland by an R.N.Z.A.F. Hercules on July 2. The 11 policemen from whom the seven replacements will be chosen will start a week’s special training at the Trentham police training school on Monday. Eight policemen, including the present officer-in-charge, Superintendent R. A. Moore, of New Plymouth, will return from Cyprus soon. The policemen will serve six months or a year in Cyprus.
