Long Service To Trials
CHRISTCHURCH-BORN man, Mr A. G. Stead, of Hastings, is president of the New Zealand Sheep Dog Trial Association.
A son of Mr W. G. Stead. Mr A. G. Stead was born at Strowan where St Andrew’s College is now situated. He left Christchurch when only an infant but returned to attend Christ’s College.
A farmer in Hawkes Bay, Mr Stead was invested with the 0.8. E. last week for his
services to farming, and particularly in connexion with dog trials. He has been president of the New Zealand Sheep Dog Trial Association since its inception some 12 or 14 years ago, and before that he was president of the North Island Sheep Dog Trial Association. He has been president of the Hawkes Bay dog trial centre for the last 26 years.
In 1925 Mr Stead won a second placing in the North Island dog trial championships and has won a number of placings in island championship! since and about five or six placings in national championships—he has only missed one of these since they started and at that time he was oyerseas. He has also judged in New Zealand championships.
