FLAVELL WILL HELP MARIST
The omission of W. A. Flavell (Marist) from the Canterbury Rugby League team and the subsequent selection of R. A. Neiman (Hornby) could have a bearing on the main Tavendale Cup match, when the fourth round is played tomorrow.
Apart from Neiman, Hornby will be without I. T. Drayton and B. W. Langton. M. H. Mofai and P. V. Smith are Marist’s only representatives in the Canterbury team. On the last occasion that the teams met Marist held Hornby to 4-9 without the services of W. D. Bert and R. J. A. McKenzie. A repeat of the great defensive play shown by Marist on that occasion and the added thrust provided by Beri could lead to an upset.
The squad members, G. J. Rosanowski (Linwood) and C. C. Preece (Sydenham), have been released to play for their clubs but Sydenham’s hopes of defeating the co-leader have been minimised further by the selection of W. E. Butterfield for the Canterbury team.
Papanui ds expected to defeat Kaiapoi with as much ease as Addington should beat Christchurch.
