ROADS TO MOTORWAY
Widening Scheme
Proposals for limited access roads for inclusion in the district planning scheme, made to the town-planning committee by the Regional Planning Authority’s engineer (Mr M. Douglass) were held over for more consideration by the Paparua County Council at its monthly meeting last night. As limited access roads, Mr Douglass suggested widening to 99ft for the full length of Dawsons road, and Waterholes and Hamptons roads between the Main South road and the line of the southern motorway, the full length of Ellesmere road and part of Longstaff road and a new road to be laid between Winchops road and the Halswell river.
The widening to 66ft of Shands road from the motorway to Halswell Junction road and the widening to 82ft 6in of the full length of Russley road were also proposed, as was widening to 66ft of Halswell Junction road from the motorway to the Main South road. Mr Douglass also made proposals for rural and urban secondary roads. Crs. J. U. Barclay and D. H. Warren were authorised to have discussions with the Ellesmere County Council on a proposal that for a suggested new Ellesmere motorway, a route via Shands or Waterholes road would give improved access to Springston and Ellesmere.
