SEAMEN’S STRIKE
Little Effect On Travellers The situation could become quite serious for intending pasesngers to Britain if the British seamen’s strike was not settled in the near future, said a Christchurch travel agent yesterday. So far the upset to shipping has not had any real repercussions for outward-bound travellers. Many were “keeping their fingers crossed” that the strike would end soon, he said. Several travellers had discussed the possibility of flying to Britain if the strike had not ended by the end of the month.
Others, he added, had expressed a willingness to travel on non-British lines provided they were maintaining their schedules. The nonBritish lines are unaffected by the seamen’s strike. Up to now there has been no significant increase in airline bookings from Christchurch as a result of the strike.
