Rich Stake For Derby

The stake-money for the Irish Sweeps Derby, to be run on July 2, is likely to be close Ito the record £74,489 offered in this year’s Epsom Derby.

The value of the race stands at £67,820, with filial acceptance payments of £lOO yet to be made. Over 100 horses opt of the original entry of 649 remain in the field.

However, 20 of these are from France and two from Switzerland and are ineligible to race in Ireland under ban on all horses from outside the British Isles. The ban was introduced shortly before the Epsom Derby after an outbreak of swamp fever lin France.
