SOFTBALL TEAM TO TOUR U.S.

(A’cld Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. A warm-up tour of the United States will definitely be made by the New Zealand softball team before it competes in the world series in Mexico in October.

The coach of the team, Mr A. J. N. Whelan, said yesterday that a tour of between 12 and 14 games would be made by a team with an aim to being in top shape for the world championships. “We will be playing in Los Angeles and Louisiana, and possibly San Francisco,” said Mr Whelan, “and should be playing every one or two days.

“As it will be our off-season we will need some hard games before we go to Mexico.” The world series, said Mr Whelan, would be contested by 12 teams, and possibly by 15. Entries had been received from the United States, Mexico, the Philippines, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Panama, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Guatemala, Venezeula, and Nicaragua.
