NUMBERS DOWN

Relicensing Of Vehicles

Although more motorvehicle owners have taken advantage of the postal relicensing facilities offered by the Post Office compared with last year, the over-all number of vehicles relicensed up to the close of business yesterday is well down. A total of 6998 vehicles have been relicensed in the Christchurch metropolitan district to date, 2650 fewer than for the same period last year. Last year a total of 96,435 vehicles were relicensed in the district.

The registration branch of the Post Office in the Wentworth building, Hereford street, has handled the main volume of business with 4157 applications (1508 less than last year). Bulk relicensing for firms with fleets of 10 or more vehicles has accounted for 2407 of these (1219 less than last year), and counter relicensing for 1380 ( 549 less). Postal facilities have brought in 370 applications, an increase of 260 on the same period last year.
