Alert In Cuba

The western coast of Cuba was alerted yesterday as a 95 m.p.h. hurricane, “Alma,” bore down on the island.

More than 3000 people have been moved from low-lying coastal areas, Havana Radio reported. Tne radio reported that a fisherman had been drowned when his boat sank in fierce winds. Many buildings on the Isle of Pines had collapsed under heavy rains.

The Miami weather bureau said the eye o« the hurricane was 200 miles south-west of Havana early yesterday and 450 miles south-south-west of Miami. Gales extended 225 miles from the centre in all directions.
