Dean Pyatt was congratulated by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P. Ashby). “I was aware of the wonderful reputation that Dean Pyatt had gained in Wellington, and 1 know the impact he has made in the relatively short time he has been in Christchurch. “It had been whispered to me that the man to be elected would be very ecumenical, and I know from experience how ecumenical Bishop-elect Pyatt is. 1 am sure that the good relations between Bishop Warren and myself will continue. I wish Bishop Warren and Mrs Warren a happy retirement,” Bishop Ashby said.
