MR CALWELL HECKLED
Address On Vietnam
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, June 7.
The Australian Opposition Leader, Mr Calwell, threatened to have interjectors thrown out by police during a stormy political meeting in Mentone city hall tonight About 30 youths and girls maintained a constant stream of boos, jeers and cat-calls during a 30-minute speech by Mr Calwell on conscription and Vietnam.
The youths kept yelling “coward,” “communist” and “what about Tibet?” Mr Calwell and the chairman, Mr G. Crawford, wanned the interjectors that they would be expelled if they continued.
Five uniformed police stood at the back of the hall but Labour officials did not call on them to eject the youths.
