DONATIONS TO FUND
£448 Given In Canterbury
Canterbury donations to the Kaitawa relief fund had reached £448, said the superintendent and treasurer of the Canterbury Merchant Navy Centre of the British Sailors’ Society (Mr D. Stuart) last evening. Among the gifts were £lOO from R. C. Idiens, Ltd., and Mr R. C. Idiens; £5O from the Christchurch Ladies’ Guild of the British Sailors’ Society: and £42 12s from the Sumner Ladies’ Guild; £25 from Miss I. Little; £l4 10s from employees of the Lyttelton Harbour Board; £l2 10s from the Lyttelton R.A.0.8. Lodge; and £l2 from x staff of the claims department of the Union Steam Ship Company. There were also many gifts of £lO and £5, Mr Stuart said. Contributions from crews of New Zealand-owned vessels were being made directly to the organisers of the fund in Wellington, Mr Stuart said.

Grass Fire.—A grass fire off Rapaki road, attended by Woolston and Sydenham firemen at 5.52 p.m. yesterday, caused no damage.
