(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, June 7. Two holes sft in diameter and about a 'chain apart were found in a swamp north of the Te Kauwhata saleyards this morning by Constable G. Peterken, of the Mercer police. He said it appeared

gelignite had been exploded.

The holes were full of water.

Constable Peterken led a party of Te Kauwhata men into the swamp this morning to try to solve the mystery of last night’s explosions. At 10 p.m. TV sets blinked and wall clocks stopped as a loud explosion rocked Te Kauwhata.

Another explosion and a sheet of flame shot into the air through the falling mist over the swamp. After the explosions the Railways Department held the Rotorua-Auckland rail-car for 30 minutes while a ganger inspected the line.
