NEW WOOL PACKS
Australian Tests
The Australian Wool Board has given provisional endorsement to two new types of wool packs, says an announcement by the Australian Wool Board in Melbourne.
The board explained that the endorsement came after two years of investigation and trial work in conjunction with the National Wool Pack Advisory Committee, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, wool brokers, wool buyers, transport authorities and mills.
“The provisional endorsement will be for 18 months, and will be limited to 30,000 of each of the two packs for the first six months, after which the position will be reviewed. This will enable the industry to test the new packs on a wider scale so that test results to date can be commercially verified before full endorsement is given,” the board said. Both packs were made in Japan, one from woven polypropylene and the other from woven polyethylene. To ensure that the quality of the packs was maintained, all shipments would be tested against a specification for such factors as dimensions, weight, tensile strength and elongation, tearing strength, seam strength, softening temperature, contamination, yarn count, colour and identification marking. Each of the endorsed packs would carry a label attesting this.
