BAIRAM IN FORM FOR MANAWATU
“The Press” Special Service
PALMERSTON NORTH. Bairam looks to have thrived since running second at Trentham a few weeks ago and a solid mile on the inside trial at Awapuni yesterday morning should have brought him close to his best for his hack hurdle engagement at the Manawatu meeting on Saturday. Bairam should be one of the best prospects in the race. After two davs of the Wanganui meeting there was not a great deal in the way of fast work yesterday. On the inside trial Bairam ran a mile in Imin 52sec, the last three furlongs in 41sec. He carried a fair weight and was going keenly at the finish. Governor General, which Is Improving, and Dine and Dance covered six furlongs in Imin 28 sec, the last three in 45sec. Governor General could be suited by the mile maiden race at Awapuni.
After galloping. Dine and Dance jumped two hurdles neatly. He worked well in his gallop and looks completely recovered from his recent fall at Waverley. He may race on the second day at Awapuni. Tyrol, which will race on the flat this week in preparation for the Awapuni Hurdles on the second day, jumped four hurdles safely, although the take-off was slippery and he was not as confident as usual. Good prizes should come his way this winter. Blue Lord did well in a schooling bout over six hurdles with Jebelle and Complicated. Blue Lord gave the others a start and finished just in front. All three jumped really well for novices. Polo Star and Battleground gave a good display of jumping over seven steeplechase fences, but Polo Star was lame when he pulled up.
