Communists Reinstated
(N.Z. Press Association* I WELLINGTON. June 7.
Seven Communist members of the Committee on Vietnam who were suspended had been reinstated, the chairman of the committee (Mr B. Mitcalfe) said today. The members were suspended after a report in the “New Zealand Communist Review” said the Communist Party had led the Vietnam committees throughout the country
in their opposition to New Zealand's military involvement in Vietnam. The committee had asked the writer of the article to retract publicly his claims and apologise for them. Mr Mitcalfe said the members had written individually to the executive disassociating themselves from the allegations in the report. “Therefore, on these conditions, we were pre-
pared to accept them back.” he said. The committee would strive to get a retraction of “the exaggerated claims” made in the article, said Mr Mitcalfe.
The secretary of the Auckland Committee on Vietnam (Miss S. Campion) said today that there had been no complaints from its 300 supporters about the article and no action was con templated.
