Woman Tramper Missing
NEW PLYMOUTH, June 7. The missing Auckland hunter, Terence Clarke, was found in the Tarawera mountains at 3 p.m. today.
But in the Ureweras near Ruatoki a search party failed to find a Rotorua woman tramper who has been missing since Sunday. Search parties found Mr Clarke after searching more than nine hours. He had become separated from two companions on Sunday. The weather was dry, but Mr
Clarke had slept in the undergrowth in very cold conditions.
A search party of about 40 police and civilians today combed the banks of the Whakatane river above Ruatoki for the woman, who set out for the Ohoro hut at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday. She is Mrs Christine Lucilla Corbett, aged 26. Radio communications have been established at the hut, at a lime quarry near Ruatoki and at the civil defence radio headquarters on Hillcrest, above Whakatane. The search will be continued by jet boat, tramping parties and men on horseback at first light. Senior-Sergeant C. D. Tay-
lor, who is directing the search from Whakatane, said it appeared Mrs Corbett had entered the bush under the impression that three other members of the Rotorua Tramping Club were already at the Ohoro hut.
However, the Rotorua party did not leave until 10 p.m. on Sunday. It arrived at the hut at 2 a.m. on Monday and returned to the road at 4 p.m. the same day. Mrs Corbett was reported missing after a telephone call had been made to her home. As yet there are no real fears for Mrs Corbett's safety. She has tome bush experience and was well equipped for the trip.
