ALICE SPRINGS, June 7. Australia’s “dead heart” was covered with fbg this morning for the first time in living memory. The fog followed 36 hours of steady rain, which experts say has finally ended a nine-year drought
The fog settled down over Alice Springs about
7 a.m., reducing visibility to 50 yards before lifting three hours later. About 250 tourists were stranded in Alice Springs after the 1} inches of rain which began falling on Sunday afternoon. The 150 points which had fallen in the last two days, falling on top of 4) inches In January, meant the drought was well and truly over.
