Farmers’ Co-operatives
Sir,—ln Tuesday’s issue of “The Press” there is an item headed, “Farm Co-operatives’ Course at Lincoln.” This mentions “farmer co-opera-tive organisations from Whahgarei to Dunedin.” I wonder if you could tell your readers how many of these firms are true co-operatives. Yours etc.,
MISS LEADING. May 20, 1966. [There are 10 farmers’ cooperatives in New Zealand dealing in the retail and stock And station agency business. From inquiries made by “The Press,” it appears that all but two are regarded as true cooperatives in that they make rebates to customers and pay only a limited dividend. The rebates vary both in size and in the range of goods or business qualifying for rebates.]
