(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU. Making more of its opportunities, South Canterbury beat off a determined MidCanterbury side to retain the Hanan Shield, 8-3, at Timarti yesterday. South Canterbury scored two tries and a conversion to one try. The half-time score was 8-0. Scorers—South Canterbury: tries, R. Vercoe, K. Reilly; conversion, A. D. Millar. MidCanterbury: try, N. A. Goodwin.
